Planning to put in a new fence or mailbox? New home improvements coming soon? Take a moment to do this before you start your work.

Knowing the location and area of your plumbing pipe can be vital when digging. If you hit a pipeline or any underground utility, it could cost you a lot of money to get it fixed. By having your utilities marked before you excavate, you are insuring yourself a headache in the future.

Common utility color markings are:

  • Blue – Plumbing
  • Green – Sewage
  • Red – Electric
  • Yellow – Gas
  • Orange – Cable TV

Make sure to call 8-1-1 or 1-800-DIG-RITE (344-7483) before you dig!

Remember:

  • Call 3 to 10 days before you begin digging
  • Wait the required amount of time
  • Respect the markings
  • Dig safe, dig smart, dig with care

Fun Fact of the Month – In the United States, a buried utility line is damaged by an excavating activity every 3 minutes.
